Why am I writing this book? Good question that I’m often asked. As I facilitate suicide grief groups and talk to people outside of groups who’ve experienced suicide loss, I see a glimmer of hope in their eyes as they hear of my tragic losses, and they visually see me showing up in colorful sequins like there’s a party going on. Almost like they’re thinking, 'This woman has experienced this horrible grief more than once and wears a smile on her face, helps others and lives a happy, colorful life?' That glimmer of hope I’ve seen in so many eyes makes me passionate about reaching more people, so they too can know there’s hope ahead in their own suicide grief journey.
Even with loss grief, you can live a positive life. It takes time to grieve easier and healthier. You learn to cope better. The trauma gets less raw. Suicide grief is a lifetime grief, but it makes you a better person often times by being more understanding, empathic and a better listener. It can even bring you to your life purpose as it has for me.
I have experienced tragic losses that have brought me on this journey. I use these tragedies and the heartache that came with them to give back to my community, bring awareness to mental health and suicide, and to live a positive and inspiring life despite such life trauma. It is doable. Sometimes it’s one hour at a time, sometimes one day at a time or more, but you can still live a joyous life.
I want to help others learn to cope with the trauma of suicide loss and the grief that comes with it as well as learn to come to peace with suicide loss. I also shares ways up cope with life stressors; the stuff we don’t learn until we are in the throes of trauma. Some of us never learn them or take up unhealthy ones. This book is a story of a true journey of hope.
